OUR MESSAGE:  As people of faith, we are called to be good stewards of Creation. Climate Change is a moral issue and requires a rapid and just transition to a 100% clean energy economy.

The Trump Administration took the United States out of the Paris Climate Accord and is trying to undo regulations that safeguard public health and the climate.

We are already seeing strong push back from states, cities, businesses, the public, and people of faith. We need to keep an eye toward the big picture — a rapid shift to a 100% clean energy economy.

Current Actions:

Tell US EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler you oppose weakening the Mercury and Air Toxic Standards

Mercury pollution has devastating effects on children and babies including brain damage, hearing and vision problems.  It’s also dangerous for adults: exposure affects vital organs like the lungs, kidneys, brain, and heart. And it disproportionately impacts people of color and lower income families who are more likely to live and work in areas near polluting power plants that emit mercury.

Since the mercury standards took effect in 2012, mercury emissions have been reduced by nearly 70%.  We need to continue to clean up coal-fired power plants that would save lives and protect our health.

The EPA’s proposal to undermine the standards by labeling them not “necessary and appropriate” is wrong, and we urge you to reject it.  Weakening the standards does not fulfill EPA’s mission to protect human health and the environment and fails in our duty to protect God’s creation. click her to tell Andrew Wheeler not to weaken the mercury standards.

Show up at Town Hall meetings and speak up for a just transition to a 100% renewable energy economy that works for all of us. If there is no town hall, then you can request a meeting with your legislators, make a phone call or write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper.
