Forest Hill Presbyterian Church in Cleveland Heights has a paper recycling center (bin) that is open to the community. They also utilize a local recycling firm for electronics and metal scrap. Once a year they host an event where people bring in their unwanted electronics and metals. Once these items are processed, a portion of the proceeds from recycling them (20%) is returned to the church. The paper recycling bin is for the congregation and the local community. It is located in the church’s parking lot. Forest Hill Presbyterian Church tries to minimize its paper use. The paper they do use is from proven sustainable sources and has a high recycled paper content. They attempt to buy from local distributors if at all possible.
Forest Hill’s annual electronics and metal recycling collection event is a good example of how local churches can serve as collection points for area recycling companies and utilize the income generated from the recycling to support their congregation’s earth care team and activities.
