Procter Center, a retreat center and affiliate of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio, is involved in two main earth care efforts—energy efficiency and gardening (for info on energy efficiency, please see the other Directory entry, “Procter Center – Energy Efficiency).
A working farm and garden has existed as part of Procter Center since 2011, and serves as a growing ministry of earth care. Organic methods are used to grow produce, and as of 2015 two of six acres of farmland are in production. The garden supports 35 Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) shares (with a capacity for 50 shares), and other produce is sold at markets in Columbus. Additionally, fresh produce is supplied to the Procter Center kitchen; this allows guests to eat locally and in season, and further extends the mission towards sustainability.
The garden supports one fulltime, year-round garden coordinator and an additional two garden apprentices during the six-month growing season.
